AM I CUTE?
AM I CUTE? transforms a childhood playhouse into a site of discomfort and confrontation. The installation restages a crime scene filled with broken and altered toys, a pink neon body outline, and a suspended doll under a dripping pink “I AM NOT CUTE” sign. Referencing artists such as Roger Ballen, Mike Kelley, and Jan Švankmajer, the work exposes the tension between innocence and violence, sweetness and control.

The performance centers on the artist and a young girl dressed identically in blue doll-like costumes—referencing the unsettling doubling of The Shining twins and the uncanny innocence of Alice in Wonderland. Together, they roam the space asking visitors, “Am I cute?” Anyone who answers “yes” becomes a “criminal suspect,” receives a mugshot photo, and is stamped with “NOT CUTE,” turning validation into a playful yet disturbing act of judgment.
I Am Not Cute blurs the boundaries between play and punishment, implicating viewers in the fragile, often contradictory dynamics of cuteness, desire, and power.
